As part of our continued growth, we are seeking an Assistant Financial Accountant to join our Finance Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated finance professional looking to develop their accounting career within a fast-paced and purpose-driven organisation.
The Role
The Assistant Financial Accountant will support the Financial Controller in delivering accurate and timely financial reporting across the Group. You will play a key role in the month-end close process, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, performing balance sheet reconciliations, and ensuring robust financial controls are maintained.
As part of the role, there will be a focus placed on the management, reconciliation, and processing of petty cash requests and transactions across our services.
The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a proactive approach to problem solving.
Key responsibilities:
Month-End Reporting
- Assist in the preparation and completion of monthly management accounts.
- Support the month-end close process, ensuring deadlines are achieved.
- Prepare and post journals including accruals, prepayments and adjustments.
- Assist with balance sheet reconciliations and investigation of reconciling items.
- Review nominal ledger transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Support variance analysis and reporting for senior management.
Ledger Control & Reconciliations
- Perform regular reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
- Maintain robust controls over balance sheet accounts.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies and unusual transactions.
- Ensure financial records are accurate and fully supported.
Petty Cash Management
- Review, process and reconcile petty cash submissions from services.
- Monitor petty cash balances and ensure compliance with Company policies.
- Investigate discrepancies and liaise with operational teams to resolve issues.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of petty cash controls and procedures.
Financial Control & Compliance
- Assist with year-end audit requests and preparation of supporting schedules.
- Ensure adherence to financial policies, procedures and internal controls.
- Support process improvement initiatives within the finance function.
- Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.
Desirable
- AAT qualified or studying towards ACCA, CIMA or ACA.
- Experience working within a multi-site organisation.
- Experience using accounting systems and ERP platforms, in particular NetSuite.
- Previous experience within healthcare, social care, or a regulated environment.
Essential
- Previous experience in a finance or accounting role.
- Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping principles.
- Experience performing reconciliations and maintaining financial records.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
